+ Read moreDelamotte Brut is a refined, classically styled Champagne that captures the elegance and precision of one of the region’s most historic houses. Presented here in gift box (en étui), it’s an effortlessly stylish choice for celebrations, gifting, or simply elevating everyday moments. Blending Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier from carefully selected Champagne vineyards, this cuvée is all about purity, balance and drinkability. Established in 1760, Delamotte is one of the oldest Champagne houses, long admired for its understated, mineral-driven wines that put finesse ahead of flash. This Brut embodies that philosophy—harmonious, poised, and unmistakably Champagne.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Delamotte Brut shows a bright, pale gold hue with fine, persistent bubbles forming a delicate mousse. The visual impression is one of freshness and precision, promising a Champagne that will be both lively and refined. On the nose, it offers a graceful mix of citrus (lemon zest, grapefruit), crisp green apple and pear, layered with white flowers, brioche, and a subtle chalky minerality. The palate is clean and vibrant, with a lively attack of citrus and orchard fruit, followed by hints of almond, pastry and a touch of spice from the Pinot components. Chardonnay lends tension and length, giving the wine a linear, saline finish that feels both refreshing and complete. While this non-vintage Brut is crafted to be enjoyed upon release, it can develop additional complexity over 3–5 years in bottle, gaining more toasty, nutty nuances while retaining its core freshness.
Production
Delamotte Brut is sourced from premium vineyards across Champagne, with a strong emphasis on the chalk-rich soils that define the region’s finest terroirs. These cool, limestone-based sites deliver naturally high acidity and a distinct mineral backbone, particularly for the Chardonnay that is central to Delamotte’s style. Grapes are harvested by hand to ensure pristine fruit selection, an essential step for a house focused on finesse. After gentle pressing, the base wines are vinified in stainless steel to preserve clarity and freshness, with malolactic fermentation typically allowed to soften the edges and enhance approachability. The final blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier is assembled with a significant proportion of reserve wines to ensure consistency of style, then aged on its lees in bottle for several years before disgorgement. A carefully judged dosage completes the wine, balancing brightness with a subtle, creamy texture.
Food & Serving
This Champagne is wonderfully versatile at the table. Its crisp acidity and fine bubbles make it a natural partner for oysters, caviar, sushi, sashimi and other delicate seafood, while its subtle brioche notes pair beautifully with smoked salmon, tempura, light poultry dishes, and creamy cheeses such as Brie or young Comté. Serve well-chilled at around 8–10°C (46–50°F) to highlight its precision and aromatics. Decanting is not necessary, but pouring the wine into proper tulip-shaped Champagne glasses and giving it a few minutes in the glass will allow the aromas to open and the texture to fully express itself.
Producer
Founded in 1760 in the village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Delamotte is one of Champagne’s venerable houses and a quiet insider’s favorite, particularly among lovers of Chardonnay-based wines. Sharing its home village—and close ties—with the legendary Salon, Delamotte benefits from access to some of the Côte des Blancs’ most prized Grand Cru vineyards. The estate has built its reputation on precise, terroir-driven Champagnes that emphasize elegance, minerality and balance rather than sheer opulence. Over the centuries, Delamotte has secured a respected place in the region, known for crafting reliably excellent non-vintage wines and characterful vintage bottlings that reflect the chalky soils and cool climate of Champagne’s finest sites.
