Zenato Ripassa della Valpolicella 2021 is a polished and expressive red from one of Valpolicella’s most respected family estates. Often described as Amarone’s elegant little brother, it combines ripasso richness with remarkable balance, making it both immediately appealing and distinctly regional in character.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby-red colour, signalling richness and concentration. The bouquet is generous and layered, with aromas of plums, mocha, candied figs, sweet spice, and a subtle touch of cocoa. On the palate, it is smooth, velvety, and beautifully structured, with ripe fruit framed by supple tannins and a refined sense of balance. The ripasso method gives extra depth and warmth, while the wine’s freshness keeps it lively. It is enjoyable now, but will also develop nicely over the next few years, gaining more complexity and nuance with bottle age.

Production
Produced in Valpolicella from a blend of approximately 85% Corvina, 10% Rondinella, and 5% Oseleta, this wine reflects the character of Zenato’s Costalunga estate. The Ripassa style is created by refermenting freshly harvested Valpolicella wine on the pomace left from Amarone production, adding richness, texture, and complexity before ageing for 18 to 24 months in oak casks.

Food & Serving
Ideal with rich pasta dishes, mushroom risotto, grilled meats, braised beef, and mature cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C to bring out the wine’s aromatic depth and supple structure. Decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended, especially if enjoyed young, to allow the aromas and texture to open fully.

Zenato is a celebrated family winery with more than 60 years of history in Veneto, founded by Sergio Zenato, who planted the estate’s first vines in San Benedetto. Today, his children Alberto and Nadia continue the family vision, overseeing vineyards across the S. Cristina estate in Lugana and Costalunga in Valpolicella. The winery is widely recognised for producing a standout range of wines, from fresh Lugana to powerful Amarone and refined Valpolicella classics.
