Tasting Notes
In the glass, Yquem 2020 is expected to show a luminous golden hue that will deepen with age. The aromatics typically move from citrus peel, apricot, and white peach to richer notes of honey, saffron, vanilla, and exotic spice, all lifted by Yquem’s signature freshness. On the palate, the wine is usually sumptuous yet brilliantly controlled, combining luscious sweetness with vibrant acidity and a finely textured, almost silky mouthfeel. Layers of candied fruit, marmalade, tropical fruit, toasted almond, and spice unfold slowly, with a finish that can seem endless. Built for long cellaring, this is a wine that can evolve beautifully over decades.

Production
Château d’Yquem lies on elevated gravel and clay soils in Sauternes, where the contrasting influences of misty mornings and sunny afternoons create ideal conditions for noble rot, or botrytis cinerea. Harvesting is done entirely by hand in multiple passes through the vines, selecting only perfectly concentrated berries at peak ripeness. Fermentation and élevage are carried out with great care in oak barrels to preserve detail, texture, and complexity.

Food & Serving
Serve slightly chilled, ideally around 8–10°C, to highlight the wine’s freshness and aromatic finesse. It pairs beautifully with foie gras, blue cheese, fruit-based desserts, tarte Tatin, or simply on its own as a contemplative wine. Decanting is generally not necessary for a young bottle, though older vintages may benefit from a gentle splash decant if needed.
