Description

William Deutz Champagne Brut Millésimé 2014 is the flagship tribute to the Deutz founder and a benchmark for the house’s elegant, finely sculpted style. Crafted only in excellent vintages, this cuvée captures the tension, purity and depth of 2014 in Champagne. It is a sophisticated, ageworthy wine that balances intensity with remarkable finesse, making it a natural choice for special occasions and serious collectors alike.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, William Deutz 2014 shows a brilliant, pale golden hue with a fine, persistent bead of tiny, energetic bubbles that form a delicate mousse. On the nose it is precise and expressive, offering layers of citrus (lemon zest, candied orange), white peach, and crisp pear, supported by notes of toasted brioche, hazelnut, chalky minerality and a hint of white flowers. The palate is both generous and tightly focused: a silky, almost creamy texture wrapped around a vibrant core of acidity. Flavours of ripe orchard fruits, lemon curd and subtle red berry nuances from the Pinot varieties are intertwined with pastry cream, roasted nuts and a light touch of spice. The finish is long, mouthwatering and saline, with a beautifully etched mineral line that is very much in the Deutz signature. Already harmonious and inviting, the 2014 has the structure to evolve gracefully for 10–15 years from vintage, gaining further complexity and depth with cellaring.

Production
William Deutz is sourced from some of the finest terroirs in the Champagne region, with a strong emphasis on Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards, particularly around Aÿ and other renowned villages. The chalk and limestone-rich soils, combined with cool, continental influences, lend the wine its trademark precision and mineral tension. Grapes—Chardonnay, Pinot Noir (Pinot Nero) and Pinot Meunier—are carefully hand-harvested at optimal ripeness to preserve freshness and purity of fruit. In the winery, each parcel is vinified separately in stainless steel to retain clarity and aromatic definition, followed by blending to achieve the house’s balanced style. The cuvée then undergoes secondary fermentation in bottle and is aged for several years on its lees in the Deutz cellars, building complexity, texture and fine, creamy bubbles before disgorgement and a measured dosage.

Food & Serving
William Deutz 2014 is an outstanding gastronomic Champagne that shines with refined dishes. It pairs beautifully with oysters, caviar, sashimi, scallop carpaccio, and delicate seafood tartares, but also complements lobster, roast turbot, or lighter poultry dishes with cream or truffle accents. It can also elevate aged Comté, mild goat cheeses, or a simple plate of fine charcuterie. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C (46–50°F) for maximum expression of its aromatics and texture. A brief decant in a chilled carafe, or simply pouring into large white wine glasses and allowing a few minutes in the glass, can help the wine open up and reveal its full complexity.

Producer
Founded in 1838 in the historic Grand Cru village of Aÿ, Deutz is one of Champagne’s classic houses, renowned for its understated elegance and meticulous craftsmanship. Over generations, the estate has built a reputation for producing Champagnes that are both refined and characterful, with a particular emphasis on purity of fruit, precision, and textural finesse. William Deutz stands as the spiritual heart of the range, a cuvée created to honor the founder’s vision and to showcase the pinnacle of the house style in great vintages. Today, Deutz is considered a reference point in the region, celebrated by sommeliers and collectors alike for its consistency, cellarworthiness and its ability to express Champagne’s noble terroirs with quiet confidence and grace.
