Wente Southern Hills Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 is a rich, characterful California red from one of the state’s most historic family wineries. Blending Cabernet Sauvignon with Petit Verdot, Petit Syrah, Malbec, and Tempranillo, it combines ripe fruit, structure, and depth in a style that reflects Wente’s long-standing expertise in Livermore Valley and beyond.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, dark colour with an inviting youthful intensity. The nose opens with ripe black cherries, juicy red plums, and cassis, layered with notes of mocha and warm spice. The palate is full-bodied and generous, with plush tannins, plenty of dark fruit, and a smooth, long finish. The wine has the structure and concentration to develop further over the next few years, while remaining immediately enjoyable for its ripe, approachable style.

Production
The grapes come from vineyards with their own distinct microclimate, well-drained soils, and east-west orientation, helping the fruit ripen fully while retaining freshness. Located in California’s Livermore Valley, the vineyards benefit from cool morning fog and sunny afternoons, creating ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon and its supporting varieties. The wine is aged for 16 months in a combination of oak barrels and stainless steel tanks, with the latter helping preserve the wine’s fruit-driven character and vibrancy.

Food & Serving
This Cabernet Sauvignon is a natural match for grilled steaks, roasted lamb, braised short ribs, and hearty mushroom dishes. It also works well with aged cheddar or other firm cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if you want to soften the tannins and open up the aromatics.
