Weingüter Wegeler’s Bernkasteler Doctor Riesling Spätlese is a beautifully poised Mosel wine from one of Germany’s most legendary vineyard sites. Known for its low alcohol, concentrated flavour and striking precision, it combines old-vine pedigree, steep slate-grown terroir and a historic reputation that has made the Bernkasteler Doctor synonymous with great Riesling.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the classic pale, luminous colour of Mosel Riesling. The nose is clean and precise, with notes of stone fruit, subtle floral accents and a distinct mineral edge that reflects the vineyard’s steep slate slopes. The palate is sweet, but the sweetness is carried effortlessly by vibrant acidity, giving the wine remarkable balance and lift. Flavours echo the aromatic profile with exceptional clarity and elegance, and the finish is long, refined and mineral-driven. While delicious young, it has the structure and purity to evolve gracefully for up to 30 years from the vintage.

Production
This wine comes from the famed Bernkasteler Doctor vineyard, a tiny but iconic site in the Mosel located just above the town of Bernkastel. The vineyard spans only 3.26 hectares, with Weingüter Wegeler owning 1.12 hectares, on a precipitous slope rising from 123 to 200 metres with inclines reaching 65%. The steep, slate-rich terroir helps produce wines of intense minerality, finesse and exceptional aromatic definition. Wegeler acquired its parcel in 1900, when the site was already considered one of the most valuable in Germany, and the wine is made in the classic Mosel style to preserve purity, balance and precision.

Food & Serving
This Spätlese is an excellent match for rich pâté, soft cheeses and other creamy, mildly savoury dishes that play beautifully against its sweetness and acidity. Serve chilled, ideally around 8–10°C, and there is no need to decant unless you prefer to let it open briefly in the glass.
