Weingut Thörle’s Probstey Riesling GC 2023 comes from one of the estate’s most prized Grand Cru sites, a steep south-facing vineyard with a long history of producing exceptional Riesling. With its combination of intensity, precision, and mineral drive, it captures both the power of the site and the Thörle brothers’ hands-on approach to quality.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Riesling shows the kind of depth and energy that immediately signals a serious wine. The nose is highly expressive, layered with dried, preserved, underripe, and ripe fruit impressions, all lifted by a vivid, chalky mineral character. On the palate, it is full-bodied and expansive, yet remains focused and articulate thanks to its firm, crunchy mineral backbone and bright freshness. The wine already offers outstanding drinking now, but it also has the structure and balance to evolve gracefully over the next 10–15 years.

Production
Probstey is a steep, south-facing Grand Cru vineyard with inclines reaching up to 35%, making most vineyard work impossible by machine and largely dependent on hand labor. Its soils are mainly sand and limestone, which help give the wine its combination of richness, freshness, and pronounced mineral tension. The 2023 vintage was spontaneously fermented and matured for 9 months sur lie in 600-liter old German oak casks, 50 years of age, allowing texture and complexity to develop without overpowering the wine’s natural clarity.

Food & Serving
Serve at 12–14°C. This Riesling works beautifully with spicy Asian dishes, where its acidity and ripe fruit can balance heat and aromatic seasoning, but it is equally at home with classic German fare such as sausages, sauerkraut, and mustard. Decanting is not essential, though a short airing can help reveal its aromatic complexity.
