Description

Weingut Markus Molitor’s Niedermenniger Herrenberg Riesling Spätlese EDITION Nr. 15 Fruchtsüss 2003 is a beautifully mature Mosel dessert wine that combines delicacy, precision, and depth. From one of Germany’s most respected Riesling producers, it showcases the lifted fruit, slate-driven minerality, and finely balanced sweetness that have made Mosel Spätlese a benchmark style for generations.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a luminous golden hue that reflects its age and ripeness. The nose is expressive and layered, with notes of apricot, candied citrus, honey, ripe peach, and subtle petrol, all underpinned by the smoky-slate signature of the Mosel. On the palate, this Riesling offers a seamless balance of fruit sweetness and vibrant acidity, giving it freshness despite its richness. Expect flavours of baked stone fruit, citrus marmalade, and floral nuances, finishing long and mineral with impressive finesse. Thanks to its structure and natural acidity, it can continue to evolve gracefully in bottle, developing more honeyed and tertiary complexity over time.

Production
This wine comes from the Niedermenniger Herrenberg vineyard in the Mosel, a steep, cool-climate site known for its slate soils and excellent conditions for Riesling. The terroir contributes both aromatic lift and a distinct mineral edge, while careful hand-harvesting ensures only fully ripe grapes are selected. Vinification is typically carried out with a focus on preserving purity and site character, allowing the wine’s natural sweetness, acidity, and precision to remain in perfect harmony.

Food & Serving
Serve this Spätlese lightly chilled, ideally around 8–10°C, to preserve its aromatic clarity and balance. It is a wonderful match for fruit-based desserts, tarte tatin, panna cotta, or blue cheeses, and also works beautifully with spicy Asian cuisine or foie gras. Decanting is generally not necessary, though older bottles may benefit from a gentle splash into a carafe if sediment is present.

Weingut Markus Molitor is one of the Mosel’s most acclaimed estates, known for its meticulous vineyard work, traditional winemaking, and uncompromising focus on terroir expression.
