Description
Weingut Heid Steinmergel Crémant Brut Bio is a finely crafted German sparkling wine that proves just how exciting Württemberg sekt can be. Made from organically grown Müller-Thurgau and Pinot Blanc, it delivers both charm and precision in the glass, offering real artisanal character at a very approachable price. Produced using traditional bottle fermentation on the estate, it stands out in a category where many producers still outsource their sparkling wine production.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Crémant shows a pale straw to light lemon hue, enlivened by a very fine, persistent mousse. The nose opens with ripe orchard fruit – think yellow apple and conference pear – layered with a gentle touch of muscat-like spice and very subtle brioche and yeast notes in the background.
On the palate, the Steinmergel Crémant Brut Bio is remarkably elegant yet expressive, with a creamy texture and a delicate but insistent perlage that carries the flavors beautifully. Juicy apple and pear are joined by a hint of white blossom and a faint herbal edge, balanced by mild, well-integrated acidity. The finish is refreshingly dry with a faintly bitter, pithy nuance that adds structure and invites another sip. Enjoy it now for its freshness and vibrancy; with proper cellaring for 2–3 years, it can gain a bit more creaminess and complexity while retaining its lively character.
Production
Sourced from organically farmed vineyards in Württemberg, the Steinmergel Crémant Brut Bio reflects the region’s mix of limestone, marl, and clay-rich soils that lend both ripeness and freshness to the fruit. Grapes are harvested by hand to ensure careful selection, preserving the delicate aromatics of Müller-Thurgau and the finesse of Pinot Blanc. After gentle pressing and temperature-controlled primary fermentation, the base wines are blended and bottled for traditional method second fermentation, maturing on the lees to develop fine bubbles and subtle autolytic complexity before disgorgement and final dosage.
Food & Serving
This Crémant is a versatile partner at the table: serve it with light appetizers such as smoked trout, fresh goat cheese, or vegetable terrines, or pair it with sushi, ceviche, or simply prepared white fish and shellfish. Its mild acidity and gentle fruit also make it a great match for poultry dishes, quiches, and soft-ripened cheeses. Serve well-chilled at about 6–8°C (43–46°F). A brief 5–10 minutes in the glass is enough to let the aromas open up; extended decanting is not necessary, but avoid serving it ice-cold so its subtle aromatics can fully emerge.
