Description

Vincent Dancer’s Oskar Blanc 2021 is a rare, one-off white Burgundy that was born from necessity and crafted with absolute intent. In a year of painfully low yields, Dancer chose to blend some of his finest Premier Cru and Grand Cru parcels into a single, tiny-production cuvée, bottled simply as Vin de France. The result is a deeply characterful, Burgundy-bred Chardonnay that marries intensity, finesse and energy in a way that feels both luxurious and quietly understated.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Oskar Blanc 2021 shows a luminous, pale gold colour with greenish reflections, hinting at both concentration and freshness. The nose is immediately inviting yet complex, unfolding with ripe pear, confit orange peel and dried white flowers, layered over notes of roasted nuts, subtle toast and a fine, flinty reduction that speaks of great Chardonnay terroir. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and generous, yet cut through by a precise, mouth-watering line of acidity. The texture is layered and almost creamy, with flavours of stone fruit, citrus oil, hazelnut and a delicate saline minerality that carries through to a long, persistent finish. It feels both rich and tightly coiled, with the structure and concentration to reward cellaring for 8–12 years from vintage, gaining further complexity, nuttiness and depth with time.

Production
Oskar Blanc 2021 is essentially a secret tour of some of Burgundy’s most prized Chardonnay sites, bringing together fruit from Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée and 1er Cru Tête du Clos, as well as Meursault 1er Cru Perrières and the Grand Cru Chevalier-Montrachet. Low yields in 2021 prompted Dancer to harvest and press these crus in pairs—Chassagne together and Meursault/Chevalier together—before blending the must for fermentation. As with all of Dancer’s wines, the grapes are carefully hand-harvested and sorted, then gently pressed to preserve purity. The juice is fermented with native yeasts and raised in oak, with a sensitive use of barrels to frame, rather than mask, the terroir. Total production amounted to just under three barrels, making this an exceptionally limited and singular cuvée.

Food & Serving
This refined yet powerful white is a natural partner for rich seafood and elegant, cream-based dishes: think lobster or scallops in beurre blanc, turbot or sole with a delicate butter sauce, or roast chicken with morel mushrooms. It also works beautifully with veal, poultry terrines, or aged cow’s milk cheeses such as Comté and Beaufort. Serve at 11–13 °C (52–55 °F) to allow the aromatics to fully open without losing freshness. A gentle decant of 30–45 minutes can help the wine shed its initial reduction and reveal its layered, mineral-driven core.

Producer
Vincent Dancer is one of the most respected small-scale producers in Burgundy, known for his precision-crafted, terroir-driven whites from Meursault, Chassagne-Montrachet and beyond. Originally trained as an engineer, Dancer brings a meticulous, thoughtful approach to viticulture and winemaking, farming his vineyards organically and intervening minimally in the cellar to let each site speak clearly. Over the years, his wines have become sought-after benchmarks for contemporary white Burgundy—tense, pure and finely etched. The 2021 Oskar Blanc stands as a unique expression within his range, blending some of his top Premier Cru and Grand Cru sources into a single, ultra-rare bottling that encapsulates both the challenges and brilliance of the vintage.
