Description

Vincent Dancer Beaune 1er Cru Montrevenots 2018 is a refined, terroir-driven red Burgundy that marries the generosity of the 2018 vintage with Dancer’s hallmark precision and finesse. Sourced from the Montrevenots Premier Cru on the slopes above Beaune, this wine offers an expressive, pure-fruited style of Pinot Noir with remarkable freshness and poise. Long admired by sommeliers and Burgundy insiders, Dancer’s limited-production reds have become sought-after bottles for those who value elegance over power.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2018 Beaune Montrevenots shows a vibrant, medium ruby core with translucent edges, hinting at both concentration and finesse. The nose opens with vivid red berries—wild strawberry, red cherry and raspberry—layered with notes of rose petals, subtle spice, dried herbs, and a delicate touch of forest floor and crushed stone. With air, more complexity emerges: hints of orange zest, black tea leaves and a faint whiff of fine oak. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and silk-textured, balancing ripe fruit from the warm vintage with a lively line of acidity and finely etched tannins. Flavors of red cherry, cranberry and pomegranate are woven with savory nuances of spice, underbrush and mineral, giving the wine a long, precise and gently mouthwatering finish. While already approachable in its youth, this 2018 has the structure and tension to develop gracefully over the next 8–12 years, gaining in aromatic complexity and textural harmony with time in bottle.

Production
Montrevenots is a high-lying Premier Cru on the Beaune side of the slope, bordering Pommard, known for its thin, limestone-rich soils over clay and a cooler exposition that naturally preserves freshness. Vincent Dancer farms his parcels organically, working with low yields, careful canopy management and manual harvesting to ensure only perfectly ripe and healthy Pinot Noir grapes reach the cellar. In the winery, the fruit is handled gently—often with a thoughtful use of whole clusters—fermented with indigenous yeasts and minimal intervention, then aged in mostly used French oak barrels to respect the purity of the terroir. The result is a wine that speaks more of place and vintage than of winemaking artifice.

Food & Serving
This Beaune 1er Cru Montrevenots is a versatile partner at the table and excels with refined, subtly flavored dishes. Think roast chicken with herbs, duck breast with cherries, veal in a light jus, pork tenderloin, or mushroom-based dishes such as a wild mushroom risotto or truffled pasta. It also pairs beautifully with semi-soft cheeses like Comté, Tomme or mild washed-rind cheeses. Serve at 14–16°C to highlight its aromatics and tension; a gentle decant of 30–45 minutes can help the wine open up, especially in its younger years, revealing more floral and spice-driven nuances.

Producer
Domaine Vincent Dancer, based in Chassagne-Montrachet, is one of Burgundy’s quiet overachievers, highly regarded by collectors and insiders for its precise, mineral-driven wines. Founded in the 1990s when Vincent took over family holdings and began bottling under his own name, the domaine quickly earned a reputation for fastidious vineyard work, low-intervention winemaking and an almost obsessive focus on purity and balance. Though best known for his white wines from Chassagne and Meursault, Dancer’s red Burgundies, including this Beaune 1er Cru Montrevenots, have become increasingly coveted for their finesse, energy and transparent expression of terroir, cementing his status as a leading figure in the Côte de Beaune’s new generation of vignerons.
