Tasting Notes
In the glass, it presents a deep, concentrated red color with the kind of intensity you expect from old-vine Aglianico. The nose is complex and spicy, unfolding with layers of black cherry, ripe plum, and darker red fruit. On the palate, it is full-bodied and generous, with flavors of cassis, black cherry, tobacco, and cedar, lifted by a subtle balsamic note. The wine’s firm tannins and bright acidity give it excellent balance and suggest good aging potential, allowing it to develop even more nuance over the next several years.

Production
The fruit for Piano del Cerro comes from mature Aglianico vines growing around Acerenza in Basilicata, an area known for its volcanic-influenced soils and strong diurnal shifts that help preserve freshness in the grapes. The grapes are harvested from old vineyards and then vinified with a focus on expressing the grape’s natural structure and depth, followed by 15 months of aging in traditional French oak to add spice, polish, and complexity.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for game dishes, roasted meats, and richly flavored aged or spicy cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about an hour if you want to soften the tannins and let the aromatic complexity fully open.
