Description

Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame Brut Champagne 2008 is a prestige cuvée that celebrates the house’s most iconic legacy: boldness, elegance, and precision. With an exceptionally high Pinot Noir dominance of 92%, sourced from Veuve Clicquot’s historic Grand Cru vineyards, it captures the strength and finesse that made Madame Clicquot one of the most influential figures in Champagne history.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a refined golden hue with a bright, luminous finish that signals both maturity and class. The nose is layered and expressive, opening with dried fruits such as almond, fig, and apricot, lifted by fresh pear and rounded out by toasted hazelnut and praline. On the palate, the wine is intense yet silky, with notes of cherry and citrus woven into a beautifully textured, structured frame. The high proportion of Pinot Noir gives it depth and presence, while the Chardonnay adds tension and elegance. It has excellent aging potential and should continue to develop complexity over time, gaining more nuance and depth in bottle.

Production
La Grande Dame 2008 is crafted primarily from Pinot Noir grown in Veuve Clicquot’s historic Grand Cru sites in Aÿ, Ambonnay, Bouzy, Verzy, and Verzenay, with Chardonnay from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger completing the blend. These vineyards are among the most prized in Champagne, offering chalk-driven soils and ideal exposure that lend the wine its precision, power, and mineral backbone. The 2008 vintage is known for its freshness and balance, and Dominique Demarville’s cellar approach emphasizes purity, structure, and the distinctive character of these exceptional parcels.

Food & Serving
This Champagne pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as lobster, scallops, turbot, or roast poultry, as well as dishes featuring truffle, mushrooms, or toasted nuts. It also works very well with aged hard cheeses or a light foie gras course. Serve chilled at 8–10°C, and decanting is generally not necessary, though a few minutes in the glass will help the wine open and reveal its full aromatic range.

Producer
Champagne Veuve Clicquot is one of the most celebrated houses in the region, founded in 1772 and forever shaped by Madame Clicquot, whose vision and innovation helped define modern Champagne. Often called “La Grande Dame de la Champagne,” she was responsible for major breakthroughs including the first known vintage Champagne and the riddling table, both of which transformed winemaking practices. Today, Veuve Clicquot remains a benchmark for bold, structured, and elegant Champagne, with La Grande Dame standing as one of its most prestigious and historically meaningful cuvées.
