Verus Pinot Noir 2020

Verus Pinot Noir 2020 is a fresh, expressive red from Slovenia’s Štajerska region, showing the elegant side of Pinot Noir with bright fruit, finesse, and a silky texture. A relatively young planting for the estate, it reflects Verus’s modern approach and the growing reputation of Slovenian cool-climate reds.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a beautiful garnet-red colour. The nose is lifted and fruit-driven, with aromas of raspberry, strawberry, red currant, and cherry, layered with subtle hints of candle wax and violet. On the palate, it is supple, juicy, and softly structured, with delicate fine-grained tannins and a harmonious balance between fruit and freshness. There is an appealing, slightly bitter finish that adds definition and drinkability. While already charming now, it should continue to develop gracefully for a few years, gaining a little more depth and complexity.

Production
The grapes come from Štajerska, in the Slovenian Styrian wine region, an area known for its cool climate and conditions that suit aromatic, finely textured wines. Verus planted Pinot Noir in 2009 and released its first vintage in 2011, making this a relatively young project for the estate. The wine is made in a conventional style, with vinification focused on preserving freshness, varietal purity, and a clean fruit profile.

Food & Serving
A versatile Pinot Noir like this works well with roast poultry, duck, mushroom dishes, grilled salmon, or lighter game. It is best served slightly chilled, around 14–16°C, and does not usually require decanting, although a short aeration can help it open up if served young.

Based in Štajerska, the winery has become known for producing clean, balanced wines that highlight the character of the region.
