Description
Torre Rosazza Spumante Blanc di Neri Metodo Classico Brut is a refined Blanc de Noirs from Friuli‑Venezia Giulia, crafted entirely from the characterful Schioppettino grape. Made using the traditional method, it combines Italian elegance with the savory depth and structure that this native red variety is known for. The unique Ponca soils and hillside vineyards of Udine give this non‑vintage sparkling wine a distinct mineral backbone and a sense of place that sets it apart from more conventional sparkling styles.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Spumante presents a pale straw to soft golden hue, with a fine and persistent perlage that speaks to its Metodo Classico pedigree. The nose is expressive and layered, offering notes of white flowers, citrus zest, crunchy green pear and yellow apple, intertwined with subtle brioche, almond and a hint of white pepper and wet stone.
On the palate, the wine is dry and vibrant, with a lively, well‑integrated mousse and a precise, mineral line. Flavors of lemon peel, crisp orchard fruits and a touch of wild berries (a nod to its red‑grape origins) are wrapped in a savory, almost saline undertone. The Schioppettino brings gentle tannic tension and a very light grip, adding structure without sacrificing finesse. The finish is long, clean and subtly nutty, with lingering citrus and mineral notes. Enjoyable now for its freshness and energy, this NV Brut also has the potential to develop a bit more complexity over 3–5 years, gaining additional toasty, autolytic nuances with short‑term cellaring.
Production
The grapes for this Blanc di Neri come from Torre Rosazza’s hillside vineyards in Udine, rooted in the region’s hallmark Ponca soils—a stratified mix of marl and sandstone with naturally low fertility and excellent water‑holding capacity. This combination limits vigor while helping vines withstand summer heat, concentrating flavor, tannin and mineral character in the Schioppettino berries. The vines enjoy ideal exposures on the hilltops, benefiting from strong diurnal temperature shifts and constant ventilation from the nearby Adriatic Sea, which promotes slow, even ripening and healthy fruit. Grapes are harvested by hand at carefully selected ripeness to balance acidity and flavor intensity, then gently pressed to obtain clear juice with minimal color extraction from the red skins. Primary fermentation takes place in temperature‑controlled tanks to preserve aromatics, followed by a second fermentation in bottle according to the Metodo Classico, where the wine rests on its lees to develop fine bubbles, texture and complexity before disgorgement and dosage as Brut.
Food & Serving
This elegant yet characterful Brut is a versatile food wine, ideal both as an aperitif and at the table. Pair it with oysters, scallops, shrimp crudo or delicate white fish, where its acidity and minerality will shine, or with sushi and sashimi for a clean, refreshing contrast. It also works beautifully with soft cheeses, prosciutto, light risotti (especially seafood or spring vegetable), and fried appetizers such as tempura or arancini, where the fine bubbles cut through richness. Serve well chilled at 6–8 °C (43–46 °F); a brief 10–15 minutes in the fridge after opening is enough if it is too cold initially. Decanting is not necessary, but pouring into proper tulip‑shaped sparkling wine glasses will best showcase its aromatics and persistent mousse.
