Description

Tenuta Paolo Scavino’s Barolo Rocche Annunziata 2015 is a beautifully precise expression of one of Barolo’s most admired sites. Crafted by a family estate with nearly a century of history, it combines depth, structure, and remarkable finesse in a style that has made Scavino one of the benchmark producers of the region.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Barolo typically shows a deep garnet color with the brick-toned edges that emerge with time. The nose is layered and elegant, offering ripe red cherry, rose petal, wild herbs, spice, and subtle notes of truffle, leather, and toasted wood. On the palate, it is powerful yet refined, with firm Nebbiolo tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, persistent finish built around red berries, licorice, earth, and mineral nuances. The 2015 vintage has the structure to age gracefully for many years, developing even greater complexity and silkier texture over time.

Production
The grapes come from the Rocche Annunziata cru in the Barolo zone of Piemonte, a site prized for its combination of exposure, elevation, and limestone-rich soils that help Nebbiolo show both perfume and structure. Harvesting is done by hand, usually in the second half of October, to ensure optimal phenolic ripeness. After destemming and crushing, the wine undergoes skin maceration for around 10-12 days and alcoholic fermentation for 20-30 days in stainless steel at controlled temperatures, followed by natural malolactic fermentation in 225-liter barrels during winter. The wine then matures for 10 months in French oak, another 12 months in large casks, and is further refined through tank assembly and bottle aging.

Food & Serving
This is an ideal wine for rich, savory dishes such as braised beef, veal shank, truffle risotto, mushroom pasta, game, and mature hard cheeses. Serve it at 16-18°C, and consider decanting for at least 1-2 hours, especially if enjoyed young, to help the aromatics open and the tannins soften.

Producer
Founded in 1921 in Castiglione Falletto, Tenuta Paolo Scavino is one of Barolo’s historic family estates and remains firmly in family hands, now led by Enrico Scavino with his daughters Enrica and Elisa. The estate is known for combining tradition with modern precision, and for its strong commitment to expressing the individuality of each cru site. With 29 hectares of own vineyards and access to 20 historic Barolo parcels across some of the region’s top communes, Scavino has earned a reputation for producing highly sought-after Barolos that are both powerful and elegant.
