Description
Tenuta Paolo Scavino’s Barolo Ravera 2018 is a beautifully precise expression of one of Barolo’s most respected cru sites. Crafted by a historic family estate founded in 1921, it combines Ravera’s distinctive character with the house style of purity, elegance, and remarkable depth.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep garnet hue with the telltale brightness of a well-made Barolo. The nose is layered and refined, with red cherry, wild strawberry, rose petal, licorice, dried herbs, and hints of spice and earth.
On the palate, the wine is structured yet graceful, with firm Nebbiolo tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, savory finish. Ravera’s personality often comes through in its balance of power and finesse, giving the wine excellent aging potential; this is a Barolo that should develop beautifully over many years, gaining complexity with time in bottle.
Production
Ravera is one of Novello’s most admired Barolo crus, known for its cool exposure and calcareous marl soils that help Nebbiolo preserve freshness, aromatic lift, and structure. Tenuta Paolo Scavino works with a strong focus on cru identity, using careful vineyard management and modern yet respectful vinification to capture the nuances of each site. Harvesting is carried out with selection in the vineyard, followed by fermentation and aging designed to highlight clarity, fruit purity, and terroir expression.
Food & Serving
This Barolo is a natural match for rich Piedmontese cuisine such as braised beef, truffle risotto, tajarin with meat ragù, game, and aged hard cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano or Castelmagno. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours when young to allow the aromatics and tannins to open fully.
Producer
Tenuta Paolo Scavino is a benchmark Barolo producer based in Castiglione Falletto, with roots dating back to 1921. Under Enrico Scavino and his daughters Enrica and Elisa, the estate has earned a reputation for combining tradition with modern precision, producing wines celebrated for their clarity, complexity, and elegance. With holdings in many of Barolo’s top cru vineyards, Scavino is widely regarded as one of the region’s most influential and highly sought-after producers.
