Description
Tenuta Paolo Scavino’s Barolo Bricco Ambrogio 2017 is a refined, site-driven expression of Nebbiolo from one of Barolo’s most respected historic estates. Sourced from the Bricco Ambrogio vineyard in Roddi, it combines intensity with elegance, offering a distinctly polished interpretation of this celebrated cru. Founded in 1921, the estate has built its reputation on highlighting the individuality of each vineyard site.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Barolo shows the classic depth and brightness of Nebbiolo, with a graceful structure that hints at both power and finesse. The nose is layered and expressive, moving through ripe red fruit, floral notes, spice, and subtle earthy complexity.
On the palate, the wine is soft and rounded at the outset, supported by a beautiful balance of acidity and tannin. There is a strong underlying depth, with a long, nuanced finish that suggests excellent aging potential. While already approachable thanks to its balance, this is a Barolo that will continue to evolve beautifully over time.
Production
Bricco Ambrogio is a historic vineyard site in Roddi, where Nebbiolo benefits from the area’s distinctive terroir and exposure. The grapes are harvested by hand, typically in the second half of October, ensuring careful selection at optimal ripeness. Paolo Scavino’s winemaking is known for precision and a modern touch, crafted to preserve each cru’s character while delivering the concentrated, fruit-driven style for which the estate is admired.
Food & Serving
This Barolo is an excellent match for rich dishes such as braised beef, roasted game, truffle pasta, mushroom risotto, or aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C for the best expression of its aromas and structure. Decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended, especially if enjoyed young, to allow the wine to fully open.
