Description
Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 2014 is one of Champagne’s most celebrated Blanc de Blancs cuvées, crafted exclusively from Chardonnay and known for its elegance, depth, and remarkable precision. Produced by the historic house of Taittinger, it represents a benchmark expression of the Côte des Blancs and the refined style that has made Comtes de Champagne a reference point for top vintage Champagne.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Champagne shows a luminous pale gold color with a fine, persistent mousse. The nose opens with pear, candied citrus, and dried fruit, layered with notes of marzipan, brioche, oyster shell, and a subtle smoky edge.
The palate is broad, textured, and impressively concentrated, yet it retains a refreshing sense of drive and clarity. Complex and multi-dimensional, it finishes long and persistent, with the structure and balance to age beautifully over many years, gaining even more nuance and richness with time.
Production
Made entirely from Chardonnay, Comtes de Champagne 2014 is sourced from premier Chardonnay vineyards in Champagne, with a particular focus on the chalk-rich soils of the Côte des Blancs, which lend the wine its tension, minerality, and finesse. The fruit is carefully harvested to preserve freshness and purity, then vinified with great attention to detail to emphasize precision and texture rather than overt richness. Extended aging on the lees helps build the wine’s signature depth and creamy complexity.
Food & Serving
This Champagne pairs beautifully with oysters, scallops, lobster, caviar, or delicate dishes featuring white fish and citrus-based sauces. It also works well with poultry, aged Parmesan, or rich mushroom dishes. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C, and while decanting is not usually necessary, a brief aeration can help if the wine is showing especially youthful or tightly wound.
Producer
Founded in 1734, Taittinger is one of Champagne’s most respected family-owned houses, admired for its elegant, Chardonnay-led style. The Comtes de Champagne cuvée is one of its flagship wines and has become an iconic expression of vintage Blanc de Blancs Champagne. Over the years, Taittinger has earned a strong international reputation for consistency, finesse, and wines that age with exceptional grace.
