Description

Stina Pošip 2023 is a vibrant expression of Croatia’s most important native white grape, crafted on the sun‑drenched island of Brač in Dalmatia. This is a poised, mineral‑driven white that balances gentle fruit with a distinctly coastal character. For curious wine lovers, it offers a refined taste of Croatia’s modern wine renaissance, rooted in an ancient local variety.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Stina Pošip 2023 typically shows a pale straw to light lemon hue with a subtle greenish rim, reflecting its freshness and youth. The nose is quietly complex rather than overtly fruity: think wet stones after rain, delicate citrus peel, subtle pear and apple, and a hint of Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, the wine is taut and focused, with a pronounced salty‑mineral backbone that immediately evokes its island origin. The fruit is restrained—more about crisp orchard and stone fruit than exuberant tropical notes—supported by relatively mild, rounded acidity that makes it very approachable. As it opens in the glass, it reveals layers of gentle spice, a touch of almond and a savory, almost stony depth that builds sip by sip. Pošip is known for its intensity and mineral drive, and well‑made examples like this often have the structure to develop for a few years in bottle, gaining more honeyed, nutty nuances over 3–5 years.

Production
The grapes for Stina Pošip 2023 come from newer vineyards around Grabica on the island of Brač, a rugged, limestone‑rich terroir overlooking the Adriatic Sea. The combination of stony soils, abundant sun and cooling coastal breezes gives naturally low yields and grapes with concentrated flavor and marked minerality. Harvest is typically carried out by hand to ensure careful selection of healthy, ripe bunches. In the cellar, the focus is on preserving the natural character of Pošip: gentle pressing, temperature‑controlled fermentation in stainless steel to lock in freshness and purity, and a period of maturation on fine lees to add subtle texture and complexity without overshadowing the grape’s saline, linear profile.

Food & Serving
This is a natural partner for seafood and Mediterranean cuisine. Think grilled Adriatic fish, shellfish, octopus salad, seafood risotto, sushi, or simple dishes with olive oil, lemon and fresh herbs. It also works beautifully with lighter poultry, vegetable dishes, soft cheeses and mildly spiced Mediterranean mezze. Serve well‑chilled but not icy, ideally around 10–12 °C (50–54 °F), to allow the aromas to unfold. A short time in the glass is usually enough for it to open up, so decanting is not essential, though a brief splash‑decant can help if you prefer a slightly rounder, more expressive profile.

Producer
Stina is a pioneering winery on the island of Brač, one of Dalmatia’s most striking wine regions, known for its brilliant white limestone that has been used in famous buildings around the world. The winery takes its name from the Croatian word for “stone,” a nod both to the island’s geology and to the strikingly minimalist white labels that have become its signature. Stina has helped bring Brač and its indigenous varieties, especially Pošip, to international attention by combining respect for local grapes with modern, quality‑focused viticulture and winemaking. The estate is widely regarded as one of the key ambassadors for contemporary Dalmatian wine, showcasing just how refined, mineral and ageworthy Croatia’s coastal whites can be.
