Description

Simon Colin’s Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chaumes 2022 is a refined white Burgundy that captures the energy and elegance of this famed village. Sourced from the Les Chaumes lieu-dit, it offers a precise balance of vibrant fruit, fine minerality and discreet oak. This cuvée stands out as a modern, terroir-driven interpretation of Chassagne-Montrachet, rooted in centuries of Burgundian tradition yet crafted with a distinctly contemporary touch.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a pale lemon-gold hue with youthful brightness and a delicate shimmer. The nose is immediately inviting, with aromas of ripe lemon, crisp green apple and white peach layered over notes of acacia blossom, almond, fresh butter and a subtle hint of toasted hazelnut and wet stone. On the palate, the 2022 Les Chaumes is precise and layered, with a vibrant core of citrus and orchard fruit framed by a fine, saline minerality. The texture is both silky and structured, combining a gentle creaminess with a taut, refreshing acidity that carries the flavors long across the finish. Hints of brioche, stone fruit and chalk linger, suggesting the wine will gain further complexity with time in bottle. While immensely enjoyable now in its youthful, expressive phase, it has the structure to evolve gracefully over the next 5–8 years, developing more nutty and honeyed nuances.

Production
Les Chaumes is a well-situated parcel in Chassagne-Montrachet, characterized by limestone-rich soils with clay and small stones that naturally limit yields and enhance concentration. The cool Burgundian climate and carefully managed vineyard work allow for slow, even ripening, preserving acidity and aromatic complexity. Grapes are typically harvested by hand to ensure careful selection of only the healthiest, most perfectly ripe bunches. In the cellar, gentle pressing and a controlled, spontaneous fermentation are followed by maturation in French oak barrels (a portion new), where the wine rests on its fine lees. Occasional bâtonnage adds texture and depth without overwhelming the purity of fruit and terroir expression.

Food & Serving
This Chassagne-Montrachet is a superb partner for refined dishes such as butter-poached lobster, seared scallops, turbot or sole with a beurre blanc, or roasted chicken with morel cream sauce. It also shines alongside creamy risottos, truffle-inflected dishes, and aged, hard cheeses like Comté or Gruyère. Serve at 10–12°C (50–54°F) to showcase both freshness and aromatic nuance. Young bottles will benefit from a brief 30-minute decant or time in a large-bowled glass, allowing the wine to open and fully reveal its layers.

Producer
Domaine Simon Colin is part of the new generation shaping the future of Chassagne-Montrachet and the wider Côte de Beaune, continuing a family lineage deeply rooted in Burgundian viticulture. Drawing on inherited parcels in prized terroirs, the domaine focuses on meticulous vineyard work and a sensitive touch in the cellar to craft wines that are precise, elegant and transparently expressive of their origins. In a region where tradition and reputation are paramount, Simon Colin has quickly earned attention for his finely tuned, terroir-driven whites that respect classic Burgundy while bringing a fresh, contemporary finesse to the appellation.
