Description
Seckinger’s Riesling Deidesheim Kieselberg Wurzelecht Bio is a rare and highly expressive Pfalz white wine from truly own-rooted vines, a real curiosity in modern European viticulture. Sourced from the Kieselberg in Deidesheim and crafted organically, it combines the clarity of Riesling with the individuality that many wine lovers associate with old, ungrafted vineyards. The result is a wine with both historical significance and a distinctive sense of place.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Riesling typically shows a bright, pale color with a lively, crystalline appearance. The nose is often precise and mineral-driven, with fresh citrus, white peach, green apple, and subtle floral and herbal nuances, alongside a stony, saline edge that reflects its site.
On the palate, it tends to be focused and energetic, balancing juicy fruit with firm acidity and a fine, textured mineral core. The own-rooted vines can lend an extra layer of depth and individuality, making this a Riesling that feels both vibrant and quietly complex. With its structure and tension, it should also develop beautifully over time, gaining more honeyed, petroleum, and spice notes with age.
Production
This wine comes from the Kieselberg in Deidesheim, a site in the Pfalz known for its warm climate, well-exposed slopes, and mineral soils that suit Riesling especially well. The vines are “wurzelecht” (own-rooted), meaning they were not grafted onto American rootstocks, a rarity made possible only where phylloxera never took hold. Certified organic farming and careful vineyard work help preserve the character of the site, and the vinification is aimed at capturing purity, precision, and terroir expression.
Food & Serving
A great match for shellfish, sushi, grilled white fish, asparagus, and lightly seasoned poultry dishes, as well as fresh goat cheese or dishes with bright citrus and herbal elements. Serve well chilled, ideally around 8–10°C, to preserve its freshness and aromatic detail. Decanting is generally not necessary, though a short aeration can help if you want to open up its mineral complexity.
