Description
San Polo Rosso di Montalcino 2023 is a lively, estate-grown Sangiovese that captures the freshness and elegance of Montalcino in a more approachable style than Brunello. Produced by San Polo under the Allegrini name, it combines modern precision with a strong sense of Tuscan tradition, making it a compelling introduction to one of Italy’s most celebrated wine regions.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Rosso di Montalcino typically shows a bright ruby-red colour with youthful clarity. The nose is expressive and inviting, with aromas of ripe red cherry, wild berries, violets, and subtle herbal and spicy notes that reflect Sangiovese’s classic character.
On the palate, it is fresh and energetic, with juicy red fruit, fine-grained tannins, and a vibrant line of acidity that keeps the wine balanced and food-friendly. The finish is elegant and savoury, with enough structure to suggest good short- to medium-term ageing potential, especially if stored well over the next few years.
Production
San Polo’s vineyards in Montalcino benefit from Tuscany’s warm days, cool nights, and well-drained soils that help Sangiovese develop concentration while preserving freshness. The grapes are carefully harvested at optimal ripeness and vinified with a focus on purity and balance, allowing the vineyard character to come through without excessive extraction or oak influence.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs naturally with Tuscan-inspired dishes such as pasta with tomato-based sauces, grilled meats, roasted poultry, and aged pecorino. It is best served slightly cool, around 16–18°C, and does not usually require decanting, though a short aeration can help open up its aromas if enjoyed young.

San Polo Azienda Agricola is part of the Allegrini family’s winemaking vision and has become known for its modern, sustainability-minded approach in Montalcino.
