Tasting Notes
Dark and deeply colored in the glass, the 2020 Sassicaia opens with a compelling aromatic profile of blackcurrant jam, gravel, spice, new leather, liquorice, and crème de cassis. On the palate it is broad, powerful, and layered, yet the tannins are almost absorbed by the wine’s pure fruit intensity, giving it a polished, seductive feel. While Sassicaia is not typically about sheer size, 2020 brings an extra dimension of textural depth and richness that makes the wine especially engaging now. It should age beautifully over the long term, gaining further nuance and complexity with several years in bottle.

Production
The 2020 vintage came from a season marked by a long, rainy winter and a cold spring, followed by rising temperatures in mid-June and a hot July tempered by August. Ripening progressed quickly, and the estate harvested the entire property in just 22 days, compared with the more typical 29–30, with strict vineyard selection reducing production by around 30%. After 15–18 days of skin contact, the wine was aged for 25 months in French oak, 50% of it new.

Sassicaia 2020 is a natural match for fine grilled or roasted red meats, lamb, game, truffle-based dishes, and richly flavored Tuscan cuisine. Serve at around 16–18°C and consider decanting for at least 1–2 hours to let the wine fully раскрыться and show its layered aromatics and structure.
