Description
San Giusto a Rentennano’s Chianti Classico Le Baroncole Riserva is a refined, organically farmed expression of Sangiovese from one of Tuscany’s most respected estates. Crafted from 97% Sangiovese and 3% Canaiolo Nero, it combines depth, freshness, and old-world character, carrying forward the story of a former Cistercian monastery turned benchmark producer in Chianti Classico.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby-garnet core with garnet reflections that hint at its complexity and maturity. The nose is layered and distinctive, opening with graphite, humus, and flint, then moving into cherry, tobacco, juniper, and a touch of nutmeg.
The palate is powerful yet composed, with well-integrated tannins and a vibrant line of freshness that keeps the wine focused and energetic. A long, lingering finish brings subtle smoky notes, and the structure suggests excellent aging potential over the next 8 to 12 years, if not longer in a good cellar.
Production
This wine comes from the historic San Giusto a Rentennano estate in Tuscany, where organically tended vineyards benefit from the classic Chianti Classico terroir of altitude, limestone-rich soils, and strong diurnal shifts that preserve aromatics and acidity. Grapes are fermented and macerated in concrete and steel tanks for around 18–20 days, then aged in French oak barrels and casks for 16–20 months, depending on the vintage’s character, followed by about 6 months of bottle aging.
Food & Serving
Ideal with richly flavored Tuscan dishes such as bistecca alla Fiorentina, roasted lamb, wild boar, and hearty ragù-based pastas. It also pairs beautifully with aged Pecorino and mushroom dishes. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for about 1 hour to allow the aromatics and structure to fully open.
