Salcheto’s Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva Bio 2016 is a vivid, characterful Tuscan red that combines organic farming with the elegance and depth for which Montepulciano is celebrated. Made primarily from Prugnolo Gentile, with a small addition of Colorino to enhance structure and colour, it reflects both local tradition and a modern commitment to sustainability.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby red with only slight translucency and subtle brown reflections. The nose is immediately expressive, opening with juicy red cherry before unfolding into more layered aromas of Black Forest gateau, raspberry soda, buttered toast, chocolate pudding, leather, fresh bay leaf, white pepper, allspice and light tobacco. On the palate, the wine is warm, complex and still carries a touch of youthful grip, with tannins that lean slightly green and bring a savoury bitterness reminiscent of cherry stones. Notes of liquorice and cedar add sweetness and spice, while a red clay-like minerality carries through the long finish. It has the structure to develop further with bottle age, gaining even more harmony and nuance over time.

Production
Produced in Montepulciano, Tuscany, this wine comes from organically farmed vineyards planted on soils that lend the finished wine its earthy, mineral character. The blend is based on Prugnolo Gentile, supported by 5% Colorino to deepen colour and structure. Careful harvesting and vinification aim to preserve aromatic purity while allowing the Riserva to build complexity, firmness and ageing potential.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for rich Tuscan dishes such as pappardelle with wild boar ragù, bistecca alla fiorentina, slow-braised beef, game, or mature hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for about an hour if possible to allow the wine’s aromatics and tannins to open fully.
