Description
Ruffin & Fils Chardonnay D’Or is an elegant non-vintage Champagne crafted exclusively from Chardonnay, capturing the finesse and brightness of the Côte des Blancs style. This cuvée offers a refined, Chardonnay-driven expression with a golden touch—true to its name, “D’Or,” meaning “of gold.” As a grower-producer with more than half a century of family history, Ruffin & Fils brings together tradition, terroir, and meticulous craftsmanship in every bottle.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Ruffin & Fils Chardonnay D’Or shows a luminous pale gold color with fine, persistent bubbles forming a delicate mousse. The nose is vibrant and pure, with aromas of citrus zest, green apple, white flowers, and hints of freshly baked brioche, supported by subtle notes of almond and chalky minerality.
On the palate, this Champagne is crisp, precise, and layered, balancing fresh acidity with a silky, creamy texture from time on the lees. Flavors of lemon curd, pear, and golden apple are interwoven with nuances of toast, hazelnut, and a saline, mineral edge that lingers on the finish. Enjoyable now for its energy and freshness, this non-vintage cuvée will also develop a touch more complexity and roundness over the next 3–5 years if cellared correctly.
Production
Ruffin & Fils Chardonnay D’Or is produced from 100% Chardonnay grown in the chalk-rich vineyards of Champagne, France, where cool climates and limestone subsoils help deliver high acidity, finesse, and a distinct mineral backbone. Grapes are typically harvested by hand to ensure only the healthiest, ripest clusters reach the press, preserving delicacy and aromatic purity. After gentle pressing, the base wines are fermented in temperature-controlled vessels, then blended across vintages to maintain a consistent house style. The wine undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle following the traditional méthode champenoise, with extended lees aging to add creaminess, complexity, and fine, persistent bubbles before disgorgement and dosage.
Food & Serving
Ruffin & Fils Chardonnay D’Or is a versatile Champagne that shines as an aperitif yet pairs beautifully with food. Try it alongside oysters, scallops, sushi, or delicate white fish dishes, as well as creamy goat cheese, light poultry, and refined vegetable starters. Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C (46–50°F) to highlight its freshness and aromatic detail. A brief 10–15 minutes in the glass or an elegant, narrow decanter can help the wine open up and reveal additional layers of texture and complexity.
Producer
Ruffin & Fils is a family-owned Champagne house with more than 50 years of tradition, founded in the mid-20th century by Jean Ruffin. In 1965, he embarked on the Champagne adventure with his three sons—Maurice, Raymond, and Dominique—and, later, his grandson Alexandre joined in 1995, carrying the legacy into a new generation. The story of Champagne Ruffin & Fils is one of continuity, where family character, ingenuity, and know-how come together to express their terroir with a distinctive and enduring style. Today, the house is recognized as a committed grower-producer in Champagne, crafting wines that reflect both their heritage and the unique chalky soils of their vineyards.
