Tasting Notes

The nose is immediately evocative: ethereal notes of pine forest and Mediterranean scrub weave together with fresh thyme, rosemary and a subtle graphite edge. Beneath the herbal-spicy top notes lies a generous core of black cherry and cherry kernel, intertwined with ripe damson plum, blackcurrant and a dusting of dark cocoa and sweet tobacco. On the palate, the wine is cool-toned, precise and incredibly graceful, gliding across the tongue like a sheet of silk. Production
The grapes for Riecine Chianti Classico Riserva 2020 come from old Sangiovese vines—some up to 50 years of age—rooted at around 500 meters above sea level in the single vineyard Gittori in Gaiole. This elevated site, with its cool nights and abundant sunlight, sits on soils rich in clay and limestone, giving the wine both aromatic lift and firm, mineral-driven structure. Yields are naturally low, and the harvest is carried out entirely by hand, followed by a second rigorous selection at the winery to retain only the finest bunches. Fermentation and maceration take place in concrete tanks, allowing for gentle extraction and purity of fruit. The wine then matures for 24 months in large neutral oak casks, followed by additional time in bottle before release, ensuring integration of tannins and the development of its complex bouquet without masking the character of Sangiovese.

This Chianti Classico Riserva is a versatile yet decidedly gastronomic wine, ideally suited to classic Tuscan fare and richly flavored dishes. It pairs beautifully with bistecca alla fiorentina, roast lamb with herbs, wild boar ragù, or slow-braised beef and veal shanks. Mushroom-based dishes, truffle pasta, aged Pecorino Toscano and other firm, mature cheeses also work exceptionally well with its savory, herbal complexity. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) in large Burgundy or Bordeaux stems to highlight its aromatic detail. Decanting for 1–2 hours in its youth is recommended to allow the wine to fully open, soften the tannins and reveal the layers of fruit, spice and forest notes.
