Ridge Vineyards Geyserville is one of California’s most iconic Zinfandel-based wines, celebrated year after year for its balance, depth, and unmistakable old-vine character. First produced from the historic Geyserville Vineyard in 1966, it draws from some of Ridge’s oldest parcels, including vines that are now up to 130 years old, giving the wine remarkable concentration and complexity.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 2021 vintage shows a dark ruby-red color that hints at its intensity. The nose opens with dark cherries, spice, cola, and mint, layered with subtle earthy tones that add dimension and freshness. On the palate, dark fruit takes the lead, followed by notes of pomegranate, rose petals, cocoa, and a gentle smoky character that lingers into a long finish. Despite its power, the wine remains beautifully composed and finely balanced. It has the structure and concentration to evolve gracefully over time, especially if cellared for a few more years.

Production
Geyserville Vineyard is planted on classic California terroir that has long been prized for producing expressive, old-vine Zinfandel. The blend shifts slightly from vintage to vintage, but Zinfandel typically makes up around 70%, supported by Carignan, Petite Sirah, and Alicante Bouschet. The grapes are carefully harvested and vinified to preserve purity and site character, then aged for 13 months in American oak with only about 10% new barrels, allowing the fruit to remain at the center of the wine.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile food wine that shines alongside grilled lamb, beef ribs, barbecue, roasted duck, or rich mushroom dishes. It also pairs well with aged hard cheeses and hearty Mediterranean fare. Serve it at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if you want to open up the wine’s aromatics and soften its youthful edges.
