Ridge Vineyards Geyserville 2019 Magnum

Ridge Vineyards Geyserville is one of California’s most iconic Zinfandels, celebrated for its remarkable balance, depth, and consistency vintage after vintage. First produced in 1966 from the historic Geyserville Vineyard, it draws on some of Ridge’s oldest vines, with parcels dating back up to 130 years, giving the wine a true sense of heritage and place.

Tasting Notes
Deep dark ruby in the glass, this 2019 vintage opens with expressive aromas of dark cherries, spice, cola, mint, and a subtle earthy note. The palate is layered and generous, offering ripe dark fruit, pomegranate, rose petals, cocoa, and a hint of smoke that carries through to a long, polished finish. Despite its richness, the wine stays beautifully composed and lifted. This is a Zinfandel with both power and finesse, and it should age gracefully for several years, gaining complexity while retaining its vibrant fruit and signature energy.

Production
Geyserville Vineyard in Sonoma’s Californien region is farmed from historic old vines rooted in well-established parcels that naturally yield concentrated fruit. The blend is led by Zinfandel, typically around 70%, with Carignan, Petite Sirah, and a touch of Alicante Bouschet rounding out the cuvée. The wine is aged for 13 months in American oak, with only about 10% new barrels, allowing the fruit and vineyard character to remain front and center.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs especially well with grilled lamb, barbecue, roast duck, braised short ribs, or richly seasoned dishes with a touch of sweetness or spice. Serve slightly cool, around 16–18°C, and decant for about an hour if possible to let the aromatics and structure fully open up.
