Ridge Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Estate 2019 is often considered the younger sibling to the legendary Monte Bello, made from the same celebrated Monte Bello vineyards but sourced from younger vines. With a near-identical blend led by Cabernet Sauvignon and supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, it offers a more approachable expression while still carrying the pedigree and precision that have made Ridge one of California’s most admired estates.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep, dark color with a violet edge. The nose is layered and expressive, with aromas of blueberry, cassis, licorice, cola, and a touch of sweet oak from the barrel aging. The palate is full and elegant, delivering ripe blackberry and cherry notes alongside roasted coffee beans, pencil shavings, and sweet tobacco. Despite its richness, it remains finely balanced and polished, with enough structure to age well for several years, though it is already remarkably enjoyable now.

Production
The grapes come from the Monte Bello vineyard in California, a site known for its high-altitude setting and distinctive terroir, with younger vines used for this cuvée. All clusters are destemmed before fermentation, and after fermentation the wine matures for 20 months in American oak barrels, with just over half being new, adding spice, texture, and depth without overpowering the fruit.

Food & Serving
This Cabernet Sauvignon pairs beautifully with grilled ribeye, roast lamb, braised short ribs, or hearty mushroom dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if opened young to allow the aromas and structure to fully unfold.
