Raats Old Vine Chenin Blanc 2024 is a beautifully focused expression of mature Chenin Blanc from the Polkadraai Hills in Stellenbosch. Sourced from vines over 40 years old and crafted with a combination of French oak and stainless steel, it balances generous fruit, bright freshness, and a distinctive mineral edge. This is a wine that captures both the character of old vines and the precision that has made South African Chenin Blanc so highly regarded.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows an elegant, layered profile with aromas of quince, white peach, yellow apple, and ripe apricot, lifted by notes of fennel spice, citrus, and wet chalk. The oak influence is subtle and supportive, adding depth rather than weight, while the clean fruit remains firmly in focus. The palate is full yet harmonious, with ripe stone fruit, fresh citrus, and a vivid mineral thread running throughout. Creamy texture, refined acidity, and a delicate saline note create impressive tension and length. The finish is long, pure, and chalky, with lingering nectarine, apricot, and lemon zest. This wine has excellent aging potential and should develop beautifully over the next few years.

Production
The grapes come from old Chenin Blanc vineyards in Polkadraai Hills, Stellenbosch, where mature vines naturally produce concentrated fruit with strong site expression. Harvest is carefully managed to preserve freshness and balance, and the wine is vinified partly in French oak barrels and partly in stainless steel. This dual approach adds complexity and texture while keeping the wine’s vibrant fruit and mineral clarity intact.

Food & Serving
Excellent with shellfish, grilled white fish, scallops, creamy seafood dishes, poultry, and mild Asian cuisine. It also pairs very well with creamy cheeses. Serve chilled, ideally around 10–12°C, and consider brief decanting if you want to open up the wine’s aromatic layers, though it is not essential.
