Description

Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon 2002 is a benchmark Washington red: powerful, polished, and made entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon with fruit drawn from two of Horse Heaven Hills’ most respected vineyards. Under Paul Golitzin’s precise hand, it captures the concentration and finesse that have made Quilceda Creek one of the state’s most celebrated producers.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep, almost black core, hinting at its intensity and structure. The nose is layered and expressive, with ripe blackcurrant, blackberry, and dark cherry lifted by notes of black truffle, violet, pencil shavings, dark chocolate, and sweet pipe tobacco. The palate is full-bodied, dense, and beautifully seamless, with rich dark fruit wrapped around refined oak spice and a long, elegant finish. Despite its opulence, the wine remains balanced and focused, and it has the depth and structure to age gracefully for many more years, rewarding patient cellaring.

Production
This wine comes from Horse Heaven Hills in Washington, with 90% sourced from the legendary Champoux Vineyard and 10% from Mach One Vineyard. Both sites are prized for their warm, dry growing conditions and well-drained soils, which are especially well suited to Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes were hand-harvested, selected with great care, fermented gently, and then aged for 20 months in 100% new French oak to build complexity, texture, and a refined savory edge.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for prime rib, grilled ribeye, lamb chops, braised short ribs, or a classic beef Wellington. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if opening now, especially to allow the wine’s aromatics and structure to fully unfold.

Producer
Quilceda Creek is one of Washington State’s most acclaimed wineries, known for an uncompromising commitment to quality and for producing some of the region’s most highly regarded Cabernet Sauvignon. Founded by the Golitzin family and guided by Paul Golitzin, the estate has earned an outstanding reputation for purity, concentration, and age-worthy wines that consistently stand among the very best in the state.
