Description
Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Le Cailleret from Michel Bouzereau is a refined white Burgundy that captures the precision, tension, and minerality for which this celebrated vineyard is known. Sourced from one of Puligny’s most respected Premier Cru sites, it offers a graceful expression of Chardonnay with depth, elegance, and impressive aging potential.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a pale gold color with bright, limpid clarity. The nose is poised and layered, with aromas of white flowers, citrus peel, green apple, ripe pear, and subtle hazelnut, often supported by a steely mineral edge and a whisper of toasted oak.
On the palate, the wine is vibrant and finely structured, combining crystalline acidity with a concentrated core of orchard fruit, lemon zest, and chalky freshness. The finish is long and precise, with a saline, mouthwatering impression that suggests excellent development over time; this is a wine that can reward cellaring for several years and, in strong vintages, considerably longer.
Production
Le Cailleret is one of Puligny-Montrachet’s distinguished Premier Cru vineyards, prized for its limestone-rich soils and cool, well-exposed terroir that lends finesse and minerality to the wine. Michel Bouzereau’s approach is typically focused on careful vineyard work and thoughtful harvesting at optimal ripeness, followed by vinification designed to preserve purity and site expression, often with balanced oak use to support rather than dominate the wine.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for refined seafood dishes such as lobster, scallops, turbot, or sea bass, as well as roast chicken, veal in cream sauce, and mushroom risotto. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C; decanting is usually not necessary when young, though a short aeration can help the wine open up and reveal more nuance.
