Puglia POP, Riccio Verdeca 2024 White

Puglia POP Riccio Verdeca 2024 is a distinctive white wine made from 100% Verdeca, an indigenous Puglian grape long associated with the Itria Valley. Crafted with a modern, sustainability-minded approach and aged in clay amphorae, it offers a true taste of southern Italy with a fresh, authentic character.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright straw-yellow color with subtle green reflections. The nose is expressive and layered, opening with white fruit, green apple, and pear, then moving into bergamot, lychee, and pineapple, with delicate hints of elderflower and hawthorn. A gentle herbal thread of rosemary and sage adds complexity, while a faint almond note lingers in the background. On the palate, the wine is delicate, elegant, and smooth, with a balanced freshness that gives a slightly sweet impression without losing precision. A mineral touch and lively juiciness keep it dynamic and well-framed, leading to a refined, clean finish. It has the structure to be enjoyed young for its freshness, but the amphora aging gives it enough depth to hold its charm over the next few years.

Production
Made from 100% Verdeca, the grapes are harvested by hand between September and October when fully ripe. After immediate pressing, the must ferments for 10 to 15 days in clay amphorae, including a short skin maceration during alcoholic fermentation. The wine then matures for a further 6 months in amphorae, followed by 3 to 4 months of bottle aging before release. This traditional vessel choice helps preserve the grape’s natural expression and gives the wine its authentic, textured style.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile white wine that works beautifully with seafood, shellfish, grilled white fish, risotto with herbs, light pasta dishes, and fresh vegetable plates. It also pairs well with Mediterranean cuisine and soft, mildly aged cheeses. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C, and decanting is not necessary.
