Description
Portofino Gin is a bright, elegant Italian gin that captures the scent and character of the Riviera in every glass. Distilled from Italian wheat and infused with botanicals and citrus grown on the distillery’s own land in Portofino, it stands out for its remarkable freshness, coastal herbal profile, and distinctly Mediterranean style. Inspired by the spirit of the Italian harbour town, it brings a modern expression of classic gin with a strong sense of place.
Tasting Notes
Crystal clear in appearance, with excellent texture in the glass thanks to its 43% ABV. The nose opens with lavender, rosemary, and a subtle saline freshness that immediately evokes the coastal terroir of Portofino. On the palate, it is vivid and refined, showing fresh Italian lemon, citrus oil, juniper, and layers of marjoram, sage, and soft orange notes. The finish is clean, smooth, and beautifully balanced, with enough aromatic depth to remain interesting sip after sip.
Portofino Gin is especially appealing for those who enjoy a crisp, herbal gin with a polished, silky mouthfeel. Its freshness and purity make it ideal both for classic gin serves and more delicate cocktails.
Production
Portofino Gin is distilled on a base of Italian wheat and produced with 21 carefully selected botanicals, including juniper, lavender, rosemary, sage, marjoram, iris, and rose. The citrus, herbs, and fruit are sourced from the distillery’s own gardens in Portofino, giving the gin a true sense of terroir and a direct connection to the Ligurian coast. The production focuses on preserving the natural aromatics of each ingredient, resulting in a clean and expressive spirit that reflects the Mediterranean landscape.
Food & Serving
Serve Portofino Gin well chilled or over ice at around 8–10°C, or use it in a premium G&T with a light tonic to preserve its herbal and citrus detail. It works particularly well with Mediterranean dishes, seafood, oysters, grilled prawns, ceviche, fresh salads, and soft cheeses. Decanting is not necessary, though letting it rest briefly in the glass can help release the botanical aromas.
Producer
Portofino is a modern Italian producer known for creating a gin that is deeply tied to its home region. With botanicals grown in its own garden and a clear focus on local identity, the distillery has built its reputation on authenticity, quality, and a strong Riviera-inspired character. Its approach has made Portofino Gin a distinctive name in the premium gin category, appreciated for both craftsmanship and a strong sense of origin.
