Porte Rouge DISCRETE - Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2022

Porte Rouge Discrète is a strikingly rare Châteauneuf-du-Pape that stands apart for its unusual 90% Syrah composition, a bold choice in a region best known for Grenache. Produced in tiny quantities of around 300 bottles a year, it reflects both the freshness and ripeness of a prized northern parcel in Piedlong, and the vision of Justine Féraud in crafting a cuvée with real distinction.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep garnet color with impressive concentration. The nose is intense and expressive, opening on black fruit aromas with a lift of green pepper and savory spice. On the palate, the wine is concentrated yet refined, with silky, rounded tannins and a long, spicy finish. Its balance of power and elegance suggests excellent ageing potential, with the ability to develop beautifully over 15 to 20 years from the vintage.

Production
The grapes come from a small parcel in the lieu-dit Piedlong, in the northern part of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where the site brings together freshness and full ripeness. The harvest is done by hand, followed by destemming and around three weeks of maceration to build structure and depth. The wine is then matured for 24 months in used Burgundy oak barrels, adding texture and complexity without overpowering the fruit.

Food & Serving
This is a wine for rich, flavourful dishes such as roasted lamb, game, beef tenderloin, or slow-cooked Provençal cuisine with herbs and olives. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young to let the aromatics and tannins fully open.
