Porte Rouge AURA – Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2022

Porte Rouge AURA is a distinctive Châteauneuf-du-Pape that showcases the finesse and purity of the sandy Colombis vineyard. Built mainly on old-vine Grenache and shaped by a gentle élevage, it represents the fresh, elegant side of one of the Rhône’s most iconic appellations. First released in 2021, it quickly marked Porte Rouge as a rising name to watch in the region.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, AURA shows a translucent ruby-red hue that hints at its lighter, more refined style. The nose is layered and expressive, with notes of wild strawberry, kirsch, white pepper, garrigue, and a subtle earthy depth reminiscent of forest floor. The palate is medium-bodied and beautifully balanced, with bright freshness, fine structure, and a clean, long finish. The sandy terroir gives the wine remarkable lift and finesse, while the old vines add depth and quiet intensity. It has the balance to develop gracefully over the next 5–8 years, and potentially longer from a strong cellar.

Production
Cuvée AURA comes from the Colombis vineyard, where sandy soils help preserve freshness and bring a more delicate, perfumed expression to Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The wine is centered around 90% Grenache, complemented by 10% other local Rhône varieties from old vines, giving complexity without overwhelming the wine’s elegant core. Fermentation is carried out gently over three weeks, followed by 24 months of aging in old Burgundy oak barrels, a choice that supports structure and texture while keeping the oak influence discreet.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roast lamb, herbes de Provence dishes, game birds, grilled duck, or mushroom-based recipes. It also pairs well with Provençal vegetables, ratatouille, and hard aged cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider a short decant of 30–60 minutes if drinking it young to let the aromatics fully open.
