Description
Pietraluce Franciacorta Rosé Brut DOCG is a refined Italian sparkling rosé that brings together elegance, energy, and precision in the glass. Made exclusively from Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder/Pinot Nero) in the prestigious Franciacorta appellation of Lombardy, it offers a serious alternative to top-quality Champagne. Crafted in the traditional method and aged on lees, this Rosé Brut showcases both the finesse of its terroir and the expressive character of Pinot Noir, all wrapped in a dry, gastronomic style.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Pietraluce Franciacorta Rosé Brut DOCG displays a delicate onion-skin to light salmon-pink hue with brilliant, fine bubbles that form a persistent mousse. On the nose, it opens with notes of wild strawberries, redcurrants, and crushed raspberries, layered with hints of pink grapefruit, rose petals, and a subtle, brioche-like autolytic character from its time on the lees.
The palate is dry and precise, with a lively, well-integrated acidity that keeps the wine fresh and focused. Flavors of red berries and blood orange are supported by a chalky, mineral backbone and a very fine, creamy texture from the traditional-method secondary fermentation. The finish is long, crisp, and slightly savory, making it as suitable for the aperitif as it is at the table. As a non-vintage traditional-method rosé, it is drinking beautifully on release but can develop additional complexity over the next 2–4 years, gaining more pastry and dried-fruit notes while retaining its structure.
Production
Hailing from Lombardy’s renowned Franciacorta region, Pietraluce sources Pinot Noir from hillside vineyards with well-drained, mineral-rich morainic soils that contribute both tension and finesse to the wine. Grapes are typically harvested by hand to ensure careful selection of only the healthiest, optimally ripe bunches, with an early pick to preserve acidity and aromatic freshness. The Pinot Noir is gently pressed, often with a brief maceration on the skins to achieve its delicate rosé color, before undergoing primary fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks (and sometimes partially in oak, depending on the cuvée style). The base wines are then blended and bottled for secondary fermentation according to the traditional method, followed by an extended period of aging on the lees to develop fine bubbles, texture, and complexity before disgorgement and a carefully judged Brut-level dosage.
Food & Serving
Pietraluce Franciacorta Rosé Brut DOCG is a versatile food wine that pairs beautifully with a wide range of dishes. Try it with Italian antipasti, salmon tartare, tuna carpaccio, sushi, or shrimp and shellfish; it also complements charcuterie, lighter poultry dishes, and soft-ripened cheeses such as Brie or Taleggio. Its bright acidity and subtle structure make it a fine match for tomato-based starters and Mediterranean cuisine as well. For optimal enjoyment, serve well-chilled at around 6–8°C (42–46°F). Decanting is not necessary, but pouring into tulip-shaped sparkling wine glasses rather than flutes will allow the aromas and texture of this Franciacorta Rosé to fully express themselves.
Producer
Pietraluce is a quality-focused producer in Franciacorta, one of Italy’s most respected regions for traditional-method sparkling wines. Operating in Lombardy, in the hills south of Lake Iseo, the estate benefits from a cool yet sunny climate and glacially influenced soils that are ideally suited to classic Champagne varieties such as Pinot Noir. While smaller in scale than some of the historic local houses, Pietraluce has built its reputation on precise, terroir-driven bottlings that emphasize elegance, balance, and careful craftsmanship. Their Franciacorta Rosé Brut DOCG reflects the growing prestige of Franciacorta as a serious sparkling wine region, standing alongside better-known international benchmarks while retaining a distinctly Italian character.
