Description
Pascal Rollet’s Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru Clos de la Chapelle is a refined Burgundy white that reflects the elegance and precision of one of the Mâconnais’ most respected climats. Sourced from a prized Premier Cru site, it offers the depth and structure of a serious Chardonnay while keeping the freshness and mineral drive that make Pouilly-Fuissé so appealing.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a clear, luminous pale gold hue. The nose is expressive yet restrained, with notes of white flowers, citrus peel, ripe orchard fruit, and subtle hints of hazelnut, butter, and wet stone.
On the palate, it is usually medium to full-bodied, combining ripe fruit with bright acidity and a layered, mineral finish. The Premier Cru site brings extra concentration and length, suggesting good aging potential over the next several years, where the wine should gain complexity and a more pronounced nutty, honeyed character.
Production
Clos de la Chapelle is a Premier Cru climat in Pouilly-Fuissé, where Chardonnay benefits from a combination of limestone-rich soils, good exposure, and the cooling influence that helps preserve freshness. The grapes are generally harvested by hand to ensure only healthy, fully ripe fruit is selected, and vinification is typically carried out with a careful, low-intervention approach to preserve site expression. Fermentation and élevage may include oak use in moderation, adding texture and subtle complexity without overpowering the wine’s mineral core.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast poultry, creamy fish dishes, veal in a light sauce, lobster, scallops, and fine hard cheeses such as Comté or aged Parmesan. Serve chilled, ideally around 10–12°C, and consider brief decanting if the wine is young to help open up its aromas and texture.
Producer
Pascal Rollet - Domaine de la Chapelle is associated with the traditional craftsmanship and terroir-driven style that Burgundy lovers value in Pouilly-Fuissé. The producer’s focus on expression of site and balance has helped highlight the quality of the region’s Premier Cru vineyards, particularly as Pouilly-Fuissé has gained wider recognition for its top climats.
