Description
Château Palmer is one of Margaux’s most admired estates, and this 2022 magnum showcases the elegance, depth and precision that have made it a benchmark in Bordeaux. As a 3ème Grand Cru Classé, it combines aristocratic finesse with remarkable concentration, while the magnum format offers especially graceful evolution in bottle.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it is expected to show a deep, concentrated colour with the polished clarity typical of a top Margaux. The nose should open with layered aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, violet, cedar, graphite and subtle spice, with a refined mineral edge.
On the palate, Palmer is known for its silky texture, ripe dark fruit and beautifully integrated tannins, balanced by fresh acidity and impressive length. The 2022 vintage has the potential to age superbly, developing greater complexity and nuance over the next two decades or more, particularly in magnum.
Production
Produced in Margaux on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, Château Palmer benefits from classic gravelly soils with clay and limestone influences that encourage drainage while retaining enough moisture for the vines. The estate is known for meticulous vineyard work and careful harvesting by hand, ensuring only the best fruit is selected. Vinification is typically carried out with precision to preserve purity, texture and aromatic detail, followed by élevage in French oak to add structure and complexity.
Food & Serving
This is a superb wine for fine dining, especially with roast lamb, duck breast, beef fillet, venison or truffle-accented dishes. It also pairs well with aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the wine to fully open.
Producer
Château Palmer is a historic estate in Margaux, classified as a 3ème Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. It has built a strong reputation for producing wines of elegance, perfume and longevity, and is often mentioned among the finest names on the Left Bank. The château is especially respected for its consistent quality and its ability to express the refined character of Margaux at a very high level.
