Tasting Notes
In the glass, Le Volte 2017 shows a deep, vibrant ruby hue, almost opaque at the core, hinting at the wine’s concentration. The nose is generous and expressive, with layers of ripe black cherry, plum and blackberry framed by notes of dark chocolate, licorice, violets and a touch of sweet spice and toasted oak. On the palate, this is a full and juicy wine, with plush, velvety tannins supporting a core of dark, sun-ripe fruit. Flavors of blackcurrant, morello cherry and ripe plum are lifted by hints of espresso, baking spices and a subtle herbal edge that speaks of Tuscany. The 2017 vintage’s low yields and water stress have resulted in a dense, modern style with notable fruit sweetness, yet there is enough freshness to keep it vibrant at the table. Production
Le Volte dell’Ornellaia 2017 is a Tuscan blend typically based on Merlot, with Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon adding tension and structure. The fruit is sourced from carefully selected vineyards across Tuscany, combining coastal influences from Bolgheri with classic inland sites to achieve both ripeness and aromatic complexity. The dry, hot 2017 season and scarce water supply led to smaller berries and naturally reduced yields, concentrating flavor and tannin. Grapes are harvested by hand parcel by parcel at optimal ripeness, then vinified separately in stainless steel to preserve fruit purity. Following fermentation, the components are aged partly in used barriques (previously used for Ornellaia) and partly in cement vats, allowing the wine to gain texture and polish while maintaining its vibrant, fruit-driven style before final blending and bottling in large-format DBMG.

Le Volte 2017 is a versatile food wine that shines alongside rich, flavorful dishes. It pairs beautifully with grilled Florentine steak, lamb chops with rosemary, ragù-based pastas, truffle-tagliatelle, and hearty Tuscan bean stews, as well as aged cheeses such as Pecorino Toscano or Parmigiano Reggiano. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to highlight both fruit and structure. In a 3L double magnum, the wine benefits from a bit of air: decant for 1–2 hours before serving to soften the tannins and fully release the dark fruit and spice aromas.
