Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine is deep and dark with a vivid purple rim. The bouquet opens with layers of black and blue fruit, accented by sweet spice, roasted notes, dark chocolate, and a subtle savory edge that adds complexity. The palate is full-bodied and muscular, yet unusually well balanced, with firm tannins and bright acidity giving the wine its structure. Expect concentrated dark fruit, spice, and a lingering, almost chewy finish; while enjoyable now for its sheer impact, it should also reward additional cellaring over the next several years.

Production
Machete is assembled from fruit sourced across nine California vineyards, allowing Orin Swift to build complexity and balance into the final blend. The wine is matured for 14 months in French oak, including 34% new barrels, which adds polish, spice, and texture without overwhelming the fruit.

This is a natural match for richly flavored dishes such as grilled steaks, barbecue-marinated beef, braised short ribs, stews, and slow-cooked meats. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes to soften the tannins and let the aromatic layers unfold.
