In the glass, the 2022 Opus One Demi reveals a deep, vivid ruby color with purple edges that hint at its concentration and youth. The nose is refined yet expressive, showing layers of ripe cherry and dark berry fruit lifted by aromatic notes of rosemary, sandalwood, and a touch of sweet spice and cedar. On the palate, this wine is medium to full-bodied, with an expansive, supple mouthfeel and a sense of effortless richness. Ripe cherry and blackcurrant are framed by subtle herbal tones and fine oak, evolving into hints of cocoa and warm spices. The tannins are polished and velvety rather than austere, lending a smooth, lingering finish with impressive length. Production
Sourced from Opus One’s meticulously farmed estate vineyards in the western benchlands of the Oakville AVA, the 2022 benefits from classic Napa Valley terroir: well-drained alluvial and gravelly soils, abundant sunshine, and cooling evening breezes from the San Pablo Bay. The growing season included an early September heat event, prompting carefully timed picks before, during, and after the warm spell to preserve freshness while capturing ripe, complex fruit. The blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, 6.5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot and 0.5% Malbec is hand-harvested, berry-selected, and vinified in stainless steel and/or oak fermenters for precision and control. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels (predominantly new) to integrate tannins, build texture, and add subtle spice and sandalwood notes without overwhelming the purity of the fruit.

The 2022 Opus One Demi is a natural match for refined, savory dishes such as herb-crusted lamb, dry-aged ribeye, roast duck, or veal with rosemary and mushroom jus, echoing the wine’s own rosemary and sandalwood nuances. It also pairs beautifully with truffle dishes, wild mushroom risotto, or aged hard cheeses like Comté or Parmigiano-Reggiano. Serve at 16–18°C (60–65°F) to highlight its aromatic complexity and silky texture.
