Description
Château d’Yquem is one of the world’s most legendary names in sweet wine, and No. 3 offers a rare glimpse into that artistry in a more accessible format. Crafted in Sauternes, this bottling delivers the house’s signature opulence, depth, and precision, balancing rich sweetness with the freshness that has made Yquem an icon for centuries.
Tasting Notes
Pale gold in the glass, it opens with a luxurious bouquet of candied apricot, honey, saffron, and beeswax, layered with subtle floral and citrus nuances. On the palate, it is dense, silky, and richly textured, yet lifted by a bright, electric acidity that keeps the wine beautifully alive and precise.
The finish is long, resonant, and nuanced, with lingering notes of dried stone fruit, spice, and warm honey. While delicious now, it has the structure and concentration to age gracefully for many years, developing even greater complexity over time.
Production
Made in Sauternes, where morning mist and humidity encourage the development of noble rot, this wine reflects the unique terroir that defines the region’s greatest sweet wines. The grapes are typically harvested by hand in successive passes to select only perfectly botrytized berries, ensuring exceptional concentration and purity. Vinification is carried out with great care to preserve the wine’s natural richness, balance, and aromatic complexity.
Food & Serving
Serve slightly chilled, ideally around 8–10°C, with no need for decanting unless you want to open the aromas further before serving. It pairs beautifully with foie gras, blue cheese, fruit-based desserts, or simply as a refined wine to enjoy on its own after dinner.
Producer
Château d’Yquem is the only estate in Sauternes classified as Premier Cru Supérieur, a testament to its unmatched reputation and quality. With a history stretching back centuries, the château has long been considered the benchmark for great sweet wine, earning worldwide acclaim for its precision, longevity, and extraordinary elegance.
