Nabal Bodegas & Viñedos, Ribera del Duero Crianza DBMG, 2018

Nabal Bodegas & Viñedos Crianza 2018 is a classic, expressive Ribera del Duero made entirely from Tempranillo. It combines ripe dark fruit, polished oak and the region’s signature freshness, offering a style that feels both powerful and refined.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby-red colour with impressive concentration. The nose opens with black cherries and red plums, layered with dried tea leaves, liquorice, roasted coffee beans and sweet spice. On the palate, it is deep and creamy, with a firm yet silky tannin structure and a lively balance that keeps the wine focused and elegant. Flavours move between dark forest berries, blood orange and ripe plum, supported by complex notes of cocoa, balsamic glaze, smoked paprika and vanilla. The finish is long and well balanced, with enough structure for further ageing while already showing plenty of charm and harmony now.

Production
The wine comes from 50-80 year old bush vines planted in selected vineyards in the cooler areas of Burgos, within Ribera del Duero. The soils are varied but mainly clay and limestone, contributing freshness, structure and aromatic depth. Grapes are hand-harvested at the end of September in small 15 kg boxes, carefully sorted and destemmed on arrival at the winery. Before fermentation, the must undergoes cold maceration to enhance colour and aroma. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with frequent punch-downs to extract colour, flavour and tannin. The wine is then aged for 14-16 months in 100% new oak barrels, 80% French and 20% American.

Food & Serving
This Crianza is an excellent match for grilled lamb chops, slow-braised beef dishes and other richly flavoured red meat preparations. It should be served at 16-18°C, and decanting for 30-60 minutes is recommended, especially if enjoyed young, to help the wine open up and reveal its full aromatic complexity.
