Description
Château Mouton Rothschild 2009 is a benchmark Pauillac from one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated estates, combining power, precision, and unmistakable prestige. As a 1er Grand Cru Classé, it represents the best of Cabernet-driven Left Bank winemaking, with the depth and structure collectors look for in a top vintage.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine is deep ruby to nearly opaque, with the kind of concentration expected from a great Mouton vintage. The nose opens with blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, graphite, and fine tobacco, layered with hints of violet, spice, and subtle toasted oak.
On the palate it is rich, polished, and beautifully structured, with ripe dark fruit framed by firm yet refined tannins. The 2009 vintage brings generous ripeness and impressive balance, giving the wine a long, lingering finish and excellent aging potential. It should continue to evolve gracefully for many years, gaining further complexity with time in bottle.
Production
Made in Pauillac on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, the wine draws its character from gravelly soils that are ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon, helping the grapes achieve ripeness while preserving freshness and structure. The blend typically emphasizes Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot and small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, depending on the vintage. Fermentation and élevage are handled with great care to preserve purity, concentration, and the signature elegance of the estate.
Food & Serving
This is a wine for classic, richly flavored dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, venison, or duck breast with earthy accompaniments. It also pairs well with hard, aged cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for several hours if drinking young to allow the wine to open and show its full aromatic complexity.
Producer
Château Mouton Rothschild is one of Bordeaux’s most iconic estates and a name synonymous with excellence in fine wine. Located in Pauillac, it was elevated to Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1973, the only change to the famous 1855 Classification. The estate is also known for its artistic label tradition and for producing wines that are highly regarded by collectors around the world.
