Description
Château Mouton Rothschild 2008 is a benchmark Pauillac from one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated First Growth estates, offering the power, finesse, and longevity collectors expect from this historic property. Crafted from the classic Left Bank blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, it combines precision, depth, and remarkable ageing potential in a vintage known for its classical structure.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine typically shows a deep ruby-garnet colour with excellent concentration. The bouquet is layered and elegant, with cassis, black cherry, graphite, cedar, tobacco, and subtle floral and spice notes, unfolding gradually with air.
On the palate, it is refined yet firmly structured, with polished tannins, vibrant acidity, and a core of blackcurrant, plum, and mineral-driven freshness. The finish is long and composed, with the balance to age beautifully for many years, rewarding patience with greater complexity and harmony.
Production
Sourced from the gravelly soils of Pauillac, the estate’s vineyards benefit from exceptional drainage and warmth, ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon-driven wines. The 2008 blend reflects careful parcel selection and meticulous harvesting, with vinification designed to preserve purity of fruit, structure, and aromatic detail before ageing in French oak to enhance texture and complexity.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef ribeye, duck breast, game, and truffle-infused dishes, as well as aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours if drinking now to allow the wine to open and soften its tannins.
Producer
Château Mouton Rothschild is one of Bordeaux’s most iconic estates and was elevated to First Growth status in 1973, the only change ever made to the 1855 Classification. Under the Rothschild family, the château has become synonymous with excellence, artistic label collaborations, and some of the most collectible wines in the world, with a longstanding reputation for depth, luxury, and consistency.
