Description

Maxime Magnon St. Jacques 2022 is a vibrant Languedoc red that showcases the finesse and drinkability that have made this small-scale producer a favorite among sommeliers and wine lovers. Blending Grenache, Cinsault, and Mourvèdre, it delivers southern French warmth with an almost Burgundian sense of lightness and precision. As part of the new wave redefining Corbières and the wider Languedoc, this cuvée highlights just how elegant and terroir-driven the region’s wines can be.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, St. Jacques 2022 shows a luminous ruby color with garnet hues, striking a balance between depth and transparency that hints at its lifted style. The nose is perfumed and inviting, with red berries, wild strawberries, and crushed raspberries layered over notes of dried herbs, rose petals, garrigue, and a subtle spice. On the palate, the wine is juicy and silky, with bright red fruit, a touch of black cherry, and a savoriness that recalls sun-warmed herbs and a hint of tapenade. Fine, powdery tannins and fresh acidity give the wine real energy and drinkability, while a gentle, stony minerality runs through the finish. This is a wine designed for pleasure in its youth, but it has the structure to evolve gracefully over the next 3–6 years, gaining more complexity and earthy nuances with time in bottle.

Production
Sourced from carefully tended vineyards in the Languedoc, St. Jacques reflects a Mediterranean terroir of rocky, well-drained soils—often a mix of limestone, clay, and schist—tempered by cooling breezes that help retain freshness in the grapes. The vines are farmed with great care, typically by hand, with an emphasis on healthy, living soils and low yields to ensure concentration and purity of fruit. Harvest is done manually to allow strict selection of bunches in the vineyard. In the cellar, Magnon is known for his low-intervention approach: whole clusters or a high proportion of whole bunches are often used to preserve aromatic lift, fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts, and the wine is aged in neutral vessels such as concrete or old barrels to avoid overt oak flavors. Minimal handling and a restrained use of sulfur at bottling keep the wine expressive and true to its origin.

Food & Serving
St. Jacques 2022 is a versatile food wine that shines with Mediterranean-inspired dishes such as grilled lamb chops with rosemary, herb-roasted chicken, ratatouille, or charcuterie and hard cheeses. It also works beautifully with tomato-based pastas, lighter stews, and wood-fired pizzas featuring olives or mushrooms. Serve at 14–16°C (57–61°F) to accentuate its freshness and aromatic complexity. A gentle decant of 20–30 minutes can help the wine open up its floral and herbal notes, though its supple texture and bright fruit make it accessible soon after pulling the cork.

Producer
Originally from Burgundy, Maxime Magnon established himself in the Languedoc, particularly in Corbières, where he quickly gained a reputation as one of the region’s most exciting artisan vignerons. Influenced by his time working with leading natural and low-intervention producers, he farms his vineyards organically and often by hand, focusing on old vines and traditional southern French varieties. Magnon’s wines have become benchmarks for what Languedoc can achieve at a high level: elegant, energetic, terroir-driven reds and whites that are as at home on fine-dining lists as they are on the tables of devoted wine enthusiasts. His work has helped shift perceptions of the region from bulk-wine territory to a source of distinctive, characterful, and age-worthy wines.
