Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2019 Barolo Ravera shows a luminous garnet hue with brick-tinged edges typical of Nebbiolo, hinting at both transparency and concentration. The nose is lifted and expressive: delicate rose petals and violets are interwoven with bright strawberry and cherry fruit, underpinned by notes of licorice, subtle spice, and a whisper of dried herbs. The Marengo family carefully tends their vines here, typically harvesting by hand to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy grapes make it into the cellar. True to a traditional Barolo philosophy, the fruit is fermented with extended maceration on the skins to draw out color, tannin, and aromatic complexity, followed by aging in large neutral wood (and/or seasoned barrels) to respect the character of the vineyard rather than the imprint of oak.
